This was a strange game, as our performance never reached the heights from the previous week. During pre-season we’ve worked hard to be a stronger defensive unit so we were very disappointed to be two –nil down after 15 minutes against a decent Yourstory side, who won their opening fixture 8-2.
Lack of communications and poor organisation was the cause of our early problems. And probably more surprising was our slow start and lack of urgency to close down Yourstory. This allowed them to dominate the game and play through our midfield and we were lucky that we only restricted their lead to two goals. By increasing our work rate we managed to claw ourselves back into the game by the end of the half to 2-2, with two excellent strikes from ‘man of the match’ Ishmael, who was a constant danger to Yourstory defence throughout the game.
With both defences cancelling each other out, further goals looked unlikely as each teams were evenly matched. However, within the last 15 minutes a defensive error ‘gifted’ Yourstory the opportunity to take the lead again. Determined not to suffer our first home defeat we ‘piled’ on the pressure, but lack of conviction in front of goal saw us waste a number of golden chances. We had to wait until the final kick of the game following an excellent cross into the box by Theo Scott, which saw Joe Victor volley the ball into the bottom corner for the equaliser to give a share of the points. Whilst our overall performance in this game was not great, we showed great character to get something out of this game.
