Lambeth Academy
1 - 2
Battersea Ironsides

Following a successful pre-season we came into our first league game full of confidence and were looking forward to playing newly promoted Lambeth Academy. From reports that we had received we were expecting a tough game as Lambeth Academy had a number of talented youngsters. After a few minutes play we knew that we needed to be at our best if we were going to get anything out of this game.

Lambeth Academy were excellent in their possession of the ball, and at times we were completely outplayed and we had to show strong defensive play as a team to stop them taking an early lead. However, against the run of play we took any early lead with a good individual goal from Patrick Schubler. Despite us taking this advantage the Lambeth Academy never changed their pattern of play and continued to attack us from all angles. However, our defence was well marshalled with excellent performances from Kevin Sandhu and Robert McLoughlin.

Our confidence grew in the second half with our defensive performance and we were comfortable to play a counter attacking game, and once again we were rewarded with another break way goal following a threw ball from Lloyd Foote that played sub Ishmael in on goal and he finished well to double our lead. Lambeth managed a consolation goal in the final minutes, but BIFC reserves well deserved this victory.
